I find myself puzzling over why Rifkin doesn’t take up Thomas Malthus, nihilism, or atheism in his book-length discussion of this topic which seem to me to be relevant to someone reminding his readers about the earth’s finite energy resources and the inevitable end of all life on the planet and I guess eventually all life everywhere. In a work of this length he could not, and did not, document the extent to which contemporary theory and research in the social sciences depends upon either objectivism or subjectivism as he has described them; nor could he offer adequate substantiation for his interpretation of the views of Marx and Wittgenstein, about both of whom there gifkin much scholarly disagreement.
