Wb we are only talking about 3 active components here worth over half the value of the saw, and one of those being new speed control I’d hate to just shotgun it with a new field and armature. Those are all the details I can think of.
The only way to find it will be to disassemble the saw and inspect the bearings.

The windings look a little discolored but not fried. A picture should have been taken. Lately I’ve been hearing this squealing noise when the saw is running and when I shut it off. If you have any play where the bearings seat I would think that would be the cause of your problems. The motor now sounds forced and is running in opposite direction.
